How to Measure Real Fuel Consumption
A full-tank measurement is often more useful than the dashboard estimate.
What it does and when to use it
Fuel use changes with route, load, weather, and driving style. A consistent full-tank measurement gives a practical average.
What information to enter
Reset the trip meter, drive normally, refill to the same level, and enter distance plus fuel added.
How to understand the result
Lower L/100 km means better efficiency; higher km/L means more distance per liter.
Formula at a glance
L/100 km = liters used ÷ distance driven × 100
Short example
35 liters over 500 km equals 7 L/100 km or about 14.29 km/L.
Common mistakes
- Mixing kilometers with gallons.
- Using a partial refill that does not reach the same fill level.
