How to Plan Tile Quantity

Convert area to tile count with allowance for cuts and breakage.

What it does and when to use it

Area alone is not enough: convert tile dimensions to meters and add waste based on layout and room complexity.

What information to enter

Enter surface area, tile width and height in centimeters, and waste percentage.

How to understand the result

The result rounds up to whole tiles. Check tiles per box before purchasing.

Formula at a glance

Tile count = area × (1 + waste) ÷ tile area

Short example

20 m² with 60×60 cm tiles and 10% waste requires 62 tiles.

Common mistakes

  • Treating 60×60 centimeters as meters.
  • Using too little waste for diagonal layouts or complex rooms.
